In AP Art, students are working on an assignment where they pick an object that is meaningful to them in some way and draw it in different positions, angles, and with varied compositions. Spread out over a few weeks, students will end the project with thirty pieces depicting their object.
Painting teacher, Mrs. McKean, does this to students who will learn to deconstruct their own preconceptions of what it means to “draw”. She explains that the most effective way to power through the difficult task of creating good work is to simply execute many pieces and see what works and what does not. Experimentation is a key aspect within art and allows the artist to understand themselves and their artistic style in a deeper sense.
