According to the Tampa Bay Times, during the elections on November 5, 2024, Florida voters decided to decline Amendment 4, a proposed change to the state constitution that would have
safeguarded abortion rights through 24 weeks.
With 57% in favor but needing 60% to amend the constitution, the vote outcome means that Florida’s six-week abortion ban, one of the strictest in the country, will continue.
Advocates on both sides of the issue are calling the vote crucial, with supporters of the amendment pledging to bring it back in future elections.
