Saturday night, September 6, Oklahoma made a statement taking down fifteenth ranked Michigan, dropping 400 yards on one of college football’s top defenses. John Mateer produced another solid performance, having a combined 344 yards, and three total touchdowns. Despite an impressive offensive performance, the defense shined even brighter, pitching a shutout in the first half, and only allowing thirteen points in the entire game. Bryce Underwood (Michigan) only completed nine of his twenty-four passes, and was held to just 142 passing yards.
Outside of the relatively low scoring Michigan – Oklahoma game, offensives had no problem. Four different teams scored seventy points. Ohio State scored 70 on Grambling St, Tennessee dropped 72 on East Tennessee St, Alabama had 73 versus LA-Monroe, and Florida State had a shocking 77 on East Texas A&M. All this doesn’t even include Oregon, Utah, and Indiana, who all scored in the sixties. Along with these videogame scores, teams had video game stat lines; like FSU, who, along with their 77 points, had 730 total yards and 49 first half points. Many of these teams showed what they’re capable of, as we dive deeper into the college football season, with increasing stakes and aspirations.
